Hello!
Warsaw University of Technology
Academic Choir
Warsaw University of Technology Academic Choir was established in January 2001 by the Warsaw University of Technology vice chancellor prof. Jerzy Woznicki.
The first conductor who made young people have a passion for music was Wladyslaw Chanas. It did not take him long to transform a group of students willing to sing into an academic choir.
As early as in the year of its establishment, the Academic Choir initiated and organized 1st Mazovia Festival of Academic Choirs "Gaudeamus" where it gained an honourable mention for a successful debut.
During summer 2002 the Academic Choir for the first time took part in an international competition. 10th International Sacred Music Festival in Mohylev, Belarus (July 2002) turned out to be a lucky treat as the Academic Choir became one of the fete laureates.
2002/2003 season is important thanks to a marvelous performance of a piece "Shadows" written by Edward Boguslawski composed to a film.
Main purpose of the academic choir activity is to spread music among academic society of Warsaw University of Technology. Series of concerts "Great Music in The Minor Hall" organized under auspices of Warsaw University of Technology every year gathers artists representing the highest level of performance. Great vocal-instrumental pieces (G. Verdi "Requiem", A. Vivaldi "Gloria", M. Musorgski prologue to the opera "Boris Godounov") the Academic Choir had honour to present together with the orchestras such as Polish Radio Orchestra, National Philharmonic Symphonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia and Harmonia Nobile from Iwano-Frankowsk.
Currently a conductor of the academic choir is Dariusz Zimnicki, vocal education is run by Joanna Protasiuk.
Members of our Choir are students and graduates of Warsaw University of Technology as well as students from other Warsaw universities.
Choir repertoire consists of an enormous richness of choir music (mostly a capella) from Renaissance till the present times. Those are the pieces commonly known as well as collector's items performed only by the Academic Choir.
